‘Line Of Duty’ actor Brian McCardie’s cause of death revealed

The actor passed away last month aged 59

Line Of Duty actor Brian McCardie’s cause of death has been confirmed by his family.

The star, who was well known for playing Tommy Hunter on the BBC series, passed away unexpectedly last month aged 59.

McCardie’s sister Sarah has now revealed on social media that he passed away due to an aortic dissection.

“Hi all, The McCardie family would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support regarding the sudden passing of Brian James McCardie – beloved son, brother, uncle & friend,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“Brian died due to an aortic dissection, causing short pain and a sudden death.”

In a follow-up post, she confirmed that the funeral will take place this Thursday (May 23) in Lanark, Scotland, adding they “will celebrate Brian’s life before he takes his final bow”.

She later thanked fans for their support, writing in a separate post: “Once again the McCardie family would like to thank you for your support at this difficult time.” She also revealed the family are requesting donations to Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland instead of flowers.

In April, Sarah McCardie confirmed that her brother had “passed away suddenly at home”, adding: “A wonderful and passionate actor on stage and screen, Brian loved his work and touched many lives, and is gone much too soon. We love him and will miss him greatly.”

In a statement, McCardie’s representatives United Agents said: “We are shocked and so deeply saddened by the tragic news of Brian’s sudden death.

“He was an actor of such great talent who we were lucky to represent, and our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this difficult time,” they added.

As well as Line Of Duty, Brian McCardie appeared in Time, Taggart, EastEnders and Ordeal By Innocence, and most recently starred in the action thriller film Damaged.
