Channel 4 to air two-part behind-the-scenes Kevin Spacey documentary

'Spacey Unmasked' was first announced in 2022, before the actor's acquittal in a UK court last year

A two-part documentary that explores Kevin Spacey’s “spectacular fall from grace” is set to air on Channel 4 next month.

Spacey Unmasked will feature never-before-seen interviews with multiple people who are not connected to the actor’s UK trial last year, speaking for the first time about their experiences with the actor.

It will screen in the UK on May 6 and 7, and will air in the US at a later date on Max, and in several other territories through a distribution deal with Warner Bros. Discovery.

In July last year, Spacey was acquitted of all nine charges he was facing, including seven counts of sexual assault, one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, and one count of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity.

This documentary was first announced in 2022, prior to Spacey’s acquittal.

An official description of Spacey Unmasked reads: “Spacey Unmasked is a forensic look at a man who was once one of the most admired and respected actors in the world. Featuring never-seen-before interviews and archive, the series examines his life from childhood to early success on Broadway and subsequent meteoric rise to stardom. Kevin Spacey’s spectacular fall from grace came amid allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviour.”

“In 2023, Spacey was acquitted of sexual offenses against four men in a U.K. trial. This two-part series will investigate Spacey’s conduct and talks to multiple men unconnected to that case about their experiences with Kevin Spacey, almost all of whom have never spoken before.”

In a statement to Variety, Spacey said, through a representative: “I’m honored to be starring in my first film with Warner Brothers in many years. I hope the Academy takes note of some of the great acting by the lesser known cast.”

Spacey recently starred in the action thriller Peter Five Eight, his first leading role since the allegations derailed his career in 2017. He plays an assassin who is called to a mountainous community to track down a glamorous real estate agent.

Late last year, he also rekindled his tradition of appearing in a strange new video for Christmas, reviving his House of Cards role of Frank Underwood. He appeared in character with Tucker Carlson in a seven-minute ‘interview’ in which they discussed the upcoming presidential election and the state of the media.
