BLACKPINK’s Jennie and Brockhampton’s Matt Champion drop new song ‘Slow Motion’

Marking the K-pop idol’s first music since she launched her own label, Odd Atelier

BLACKPINK’s Jennie and Brockhampton’s Matt Champion have released their new collaborative single ‘Slow Motion’.

Jennie and Champion dropped the song today at 2pm KST / 12am EST, a day after it was officially announced. The track dropped alongside an animated version of the song’s cover art.

“You know what you mean to me. / ’Cause I’m leaning on my way / Making my heart cry (Nothing is) / Nothing is love,” the pair harmonise on the chorus of the new collaboration.

‘Slow Motion’ was first teased by both Jennie and Champion days before its release, with both singers taking to their Instagram Stories with snippets of the song on March 3. They had also tagged each other in their respective posts.

It appears that the single will appear on Champion’s debut album ‘Mika’s Laundry’, which will be released March 22. The Brockhampton member had previously released the tracks ‘Slug’ and ‘Aphid’, the latter featuring Dijon.

‘Slow Motion’ marks Jennie’s first music as an independent solo artist, following her launch of Odd Atelier in December 2023. Jennie has described the new label as “a space that aims to create new things that attract attention in a different way from what is usual or expected”.

Odd Atelier also arrived just weeks after Jennie and her BLACKPINK bandmates renewed their group contracts with YG Entertainment, while subsequently letting their solo contracts with the label expire in favour of independent solo ventures for all four members.

Jennie and Champion have been acquainted since they both attended Coachella last year, which was headlined by BLACKPINK on April 15 and 22, 2023. Members of the K-pop girl group were also spotted among the Coachella crowds last year socialising with other performers and celebrity guests as they watched other acts perform.

Jennie and Champion’s new song also comes shortly after the music video for Jennie’s 2018 solo debut single ‘Solo’ hit a billion views on YouTube, making her the second K-pop soloist to do so after Psy with ‘Gangnam Style’ in 2012.
