Tupac Shakur arrested in Tennessee – but not the one you’re thinking of

All eyez on Tennessee

A man named Tupac Shakur – namesake of the legendary ’90s West Coast rapper – was arrested on drug and assault charges in Tennessee on Saturday night (October 19).

In a press release from the Johnson City Police Department, officials stated they responded to a call at 5:41 p.m. in reference to Mr Shakur, who already had active warrants from a different local sheriff’s department. Upon arrival, they saw the 40-year-old suspect in a fleeing vehicle that was later caught down the street.

When they tried to contact the assailant, he reportedly pulled a knife from his waistband as officers were trying to place him in custody. Following the brief struggle where Shakur was tackled onto the ground, a syringe and multiple bags of meth were found on him.

Earlier this year (May 23) Suge Knight Jr., the son of former Death Row Records head honcho Suge Knight, retracted his claim that 2Pac was alive and living in Malaysia, saying the rapper is dead but that new music is still on the way.

Knight Jr. sat down with Los Angeles’ Real 92.3 to speak about the New Death Row, the lessons he learned from his dad, and while he kept tight lipped about his previous claims regarding 2Pac, he did say that he thinks the ‘Dear Mama’ rapper is in fact deceased and that an unreleased album is on the way.

In August, it was reported that Michael “Harry O” Harris – whose label, Death Row Records, launched the career of the original Tupac Shakur – was set to be released from prison after 31 years.

Harris was convicted of attempted murder and kidnapping in 1988.
