Missy Elliott has surprised her fans by dropping a collection of new songs under the name ‘Iconology’ – you can listen to the project below.

The rapper first teased that new music was on the way back in April as she announced that she had finished work on a “big project”. Elliott’s last album, ‘The Cookbook’, was released in 2005.

Posting about ‘Iconology’, which has been co-produced by Elliott, Timbaland, and Wili Hendrix, on Twitter last night (August 22), Elliott wrote: “This year has been a tremendous year for me… I am humbled and grateful. THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me! So, I have a SURPRISE for you…

Elliott will be awarded with the MTV VMAs Video Vanguard Award on Monday (August 26). The honour comes in the same year in which Elliott also entered the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
