Filming for the remake of Dune has started, according to social media posts by its stars Timothée Chalamet and Josh Brolin.
Dune, a reboot of the 1984 film based on Frank Herbert’s seminal 1965 science-fiction novel, is being helmed by Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve as a two-part movie epic.

Brolin, who plays mentor Gurney Halleck in the film, shared a selfie-style video from the set while Chalamet (Halleck’s protégé Paul Atréides) opted for showing off the film’s expansive desert setting in a short video filmed from a moving truck.
Dune is centred on power relations between worlds far away from Earth in the year 10191 and tells the tale of a son of a noble family entrusted with the protection of a spice planet. An evil empire wishes to gain control of the distribution of the planet’s life-enhancing drug – nicknamed “spice”.
Joining Chalamet and Brolin in the ambitious remake is Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson (who will play Atréides’ mother), Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista (who portrays the beast, Rabban), Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, and Zendaya.

The film is scheduled for a US release on November 18 2020. There is currently no UK date.
Grimes previously said that she would like to direct a a new version of the ’80s film.
