Listen to Slowthai’s brilliant Live Lounge cover of Portishead

The Northampton rapper took on one of the Bristol band's classics

Slowthai has covered Portishead as part of his Live Lounge session.

The Northampton rapper visited the BBC as part of Radio 1Xtra’s Hot For 2019 live session series, where he performed the cover and his own track ‘Gorgeous’.

The rising star put his own spin on the Bristol trip-hop group’s ‘Glory Box’, which originally featured on the band’s 1994 debut album ‘Dummy’. Slowthai rapped over the classic track’s melodies before Grace Acladna delivered Beth Gibbons’ chorus. You can listen to the whole session here.

Last month, Slowthai announced details of his debut album, ‘Nothing Great About Britain’. The record, which is due for release on May 17, will feature guests including Jaykae and Skepta. Slaves, who the rapper previously supported on tour, produced the track ‘Missing’.

Meanwhile, the star, whose real name is Tyron Frampton, recently revealed that he is set to work with The Streets’ Mike Skinner on new material. Appearing on Beats 1 with Matt Wilkinson, Frampton was asked if the pair had any plans to collaborate, to which he replied: “Definitely. There’s a couple of things in the pipeline already.”
