Listen to Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page tell “psychedelic story” behind his mirrored guitar

A new animated clip tells the tale of his iconic Tele

Jimmy Page‘s iconic ‘mirror’ guitar has been released by Fender, along with a video of the Led Zeppelin member telling the “psychedelic story” behind the instrument. See the clip below.

To celebrate today’s (April 9) release of the guitars, an animated clip of Page has been shared, which details the “psychedelic story” behind the piece of kit.

Titled ‘The Mystical Journey of Jimmy Page’s ’59 Telecaster’, the animated clip features Page’s voiceover recall the moment Jeff Beck gifted him the guitar. “He said, ‘Here, this is yours’, and he gave me the Telecaster,” Page says.

He goes on to discuss how he wanted to “really make it [his] own” following his time with The Yardbirds. “I tried applying mirrors to it so you could use it in an optical way,” he remembers. “It was this whole thing of the reflective surfaces, and you could actually reflect the light onto other things; to make it sort of almost kinetic at the same time…”

Later in the colourful video, Page discusses his past vision and desire to “bring an extra life” and identity to his instrument.

Jimmy Page previously said of the collaboration with Fender: “The story of the instrument is the whole journey of it – from Jeff Beck having it, to passing it on to me with such good spirit. It’s a lot of love in that gesture and the journey of it through The Yardbirds and how it was used on the first Led Zeppelin album…the journey all the way through here today.

“Now, it’s been restored back to its true beauty and we’ve actually been able to sort of clone it.”

Last year, Led Zeppelin also marked their 50th anniversary by releasing the ‘Anniversary Interviews’ album which features 34 interview clips of Page alongside surviving members John Paul Jones and Robert Plant.
