“Stay inspired”: Kanye West pays tribute to Nipsey Hussle at Sunday Service

"Stay inspired, show love to your people"

Kanye West has paid tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle in the latest instalment of his Sunday Service performances.

As he DJ’ed at yesterday’s performance, the rapper played a clip of Nipsey Hussle giving a motivational speech – only a week after he was gunned down in Los Angeles.

Footage of the performance shows Nipsey’s speech being played over organ music before a choir breaks out into prayer.

“Stay inspired, show love to your people,” the late star is heard saying in the clip. “I just wanted to say some words of encouragement. Y’all stay focused, y’all keep working hard.”

The tribute from Kanye comes after the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar all hailed Nipsey’s talent in the wake of his death. Drake also paid tribute on the first night of his London residency, urging Nipsey to “rest easy”.

It also transpired last week that Crips, Bloods, and other gangs in LA have gathered for a “unity meeting” in the wake of his death.

Despite belonging to a gang, Hussle had a philosophy of non-violence and was reportedly scheduled to speak with the LAPD’s commissioner about ways to reduce gang violence before his death.

Nightclub promoter Marquis Diamond posted a photo on his Instagram page of members of different gangs including the Crips, Bloods, Bounty Hunters, Deuces, and more coming together for a peaceful meeting. “This SPEAKS VOLUMES!!!” He wrote. “@NipseyHussle Look what you started.
