Listen to ‘Poison the Well’, the first song from Modest Mouse in four years

They're back!

Modest Mouse have returned with their first new music in over four years, releasing new song ‘Poison the Well’ today.

After it’ digital release, the new single will be released on Record Store Day on a special triangular, mint-green 7-inch record, which will also feature another unreleased song.

Their latest has a gothic-tone courtesy of some dark synthesisers and some underlying strings. Lyrically, the song that seems to takes aim at the drug industry; frontman Isaac Brock sings “Medicine makers they are trying to kill us / They know how to cure us, but they bet that’s bad for business now.”

Last year, Jonny Marr revealed that he would most like to reunite with The The and Modest Mouse out of all his former bands.

“Last year I did a couple of things while I was making ‘Call The Comet’,” the guitarist and solo star told NME. “I did a The The comeback single, which was their first for 15 or 16 years. That was a real joy, to be playing behind Matt Johnson again.

“I never really think the door is shut on The The, and I’ve got a feeling that Modest Mouse is a chapter that’s yet to be finished. Those are the two people I’d like to work with again.”

In September, Modest Mouse will embark on a tour of North America together with The Black Keys.
