Frightened Rabbit release Scott Hutchison tribute show recording for free

The New York gig took place in December 2018 and featured guests including Ben Gibbard and Aaron Dessner

Frightened Rabbit have released a “rough” recording of last year’s Scott Hutchison tribute show for free.

A Celebration Of The Songs Of Scott Hutchison took place at New York’s Rough Trade in December 2018 and honoured the band’s late frontman. The musician’s body was found near South Queensferry in Edinburgh on May 10, 2018, after he had been reported missing.

Guests at the gig included Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn, The National’s Aaron Dessner, Boygenius’ Julien Baker, and Kevin Devine. Fans can now listen to the 25-song set from the show below and download it for free here.

In the description on the band’s Soundcloud account, Frightened Rabbit wrote of the special gig: “This night was not a night of mourning or a night of sadness but a celebration of an extremely special person and the music he created. Scott inspired everyone who met him, heard his lyrics or saw his art. We feel his loss every day but we are all in this together and we carry on strengthened by the support of the people involved in this recording and those around the world who have been affected by Scott’s passing.

“A huge thank you goes out to Ben Gibbard, Craig Finn, Aaron Dessner, Julien Baker and Kevin Devine for their support, love and kindness in being involved. We want to encourage people who listen to this to laugh, cry, hug and sing in your worst Scottish accent at the top of your lungs and keep the spirit of Scott alive in all our hearts and all our voices. While we’re alive let’s all make tiny changes to Earth.”

They also encouraged fans to make a donation to The Scott Hutchison Fund, an initiative set up after the musician’s death to raise money to launch a new mental health charity. The fund has so far raised £3,175 at the time of writing – £1,175 more than its initial £2000 target.

According to a JustGiving page, the new charity will be set up and launched later this year.

Earlier this month, a group of Frightened Rabbit fans announced plans to send five copies of the band’s 2008 album ‘Midnight Organ Fight’ on a round-the-world-trip to raise money in the memory of the musician.
