A man who changed his name to Michael Jackson wants to change it back after ‘Leaving Neverland’

Factory worker John Michael Jackson is now crowdfunding to legally change his name back

A Michael Jackson fan who legally changed his name to ‘John Michael Jackson’ is now seeking to revert his decision after watching the controversial documentary Leaving Neverland.

The film, which premiered in the UK earlier this month, focuses on allegations of sexual abuse made by two men, Wade Robson and James Safechuck, against the late singer. Jackson denied any wrongdoing up until his death in 2009.

Leaving Neverland has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry since its premiere, with fans and onlookers split on the impact that the allegations may have on Jackson’s legacy going forward.

One former fan of the late singer in particular has been sufficiently moved after watching the documentary to attempt to revert a legal name change he made a few years ago in tribute to Jackson.

Malvern, Worcestershire factory worker John Lomas now wants to undo the work of the deed poll which legally changed his name to ‘John Michael Jackson’ as he feels “there is too much doubt” about Jackson.

“During my childhood I had various obsessions and special interests growing up and one of those has been Michael Jackson,” he told the Mercury Press. “A few years ago I went to LA and soon after that I changed my name to Michael Jackson legally.

“I have supported him blindly for years and but it has come to a point with everything recently that I’ve thought, ‘no more’. There is too much doubt and I’m now left with this name that I need to get rid of.”

Lomas, who has set up a GoFundMe appeal to help pay for the legal name change, said that he’s been knocked back in his attempts to enter into the care profession due to his name.

“I just want to put this behind me, I can’t have this name hanging above me anymore, I just want a fresh start,” he added.
