The Prodigy return to US charts following Keith Flint’s passing

Streams of the band's music have risen across the pond over the past week

The Prodigy‘s music has returned to the US charts following the death of the band’s frontman Keith Flint last week.

Flint passed away on March 4 at the age of 49 after taking his own life. An official inquest into his death was opened on Monday (March 11).

Fans have been paying tribute to Flint’s legacy in numerous ways over the past week, with those in the US memorialising the frontman by helping The Prodigy’s music return to the Billboard charts. According to Billboard, three Prodigy songs – ‘Firestarter’, ‘Breathe’ and ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ – have all debuted on the Hot Dance/Electronic Song Sales chart this week, with ‘Firestarter’ placing highest at number 13.

‘The Fat of the Land’, the band’s landmark 1997 album which initially went to number one in both the US and UK, has debuted at number 13 on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart after racking up 3000 equivalent album units.

A campaign to take ‘Firestarter’ to the top of the UK charts, meanwhile, is currently under way. The Official Charts Company reported yesterday (March 12) that the song had risen in the charts but still has some way to go before it can take the top spot.

Elsewhere, thousands of people have signed a petition which is calling for a statue of Flint to be erected in the Essex town of Braintree.
