Paedophile Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins has appeared in court after he was accused of possessing a mobile phone behind bars.
The former rock singer is currently serving a 35 year sentence for a string of depraved child sex offences including the attempted rape of a baby.
Yesterday, Watkins denied the possession of a mobile phone in his cell at HMP Wakefield between the dates of March 4 and 10 2018. Appearing in court via video link, Watkins pleaded not guilty to one count of the unauthorised possession of a mobile phone.
During the hearing at Leeds Crown Court, Watkins spoke only to confirm his name and enter a plea of not guilty.
“The issue here is that he was in possession of a mobile phone in his cell,” said prosecutor Stephen Wood.
Watkins now faces trial for the offence, which is expected to begin in August. This comes after he pleaded guilty to 13 child sex offences in 2013 and was sentenced to 29 years in prison.
The shamed rock star will be eligible for parole after serving two thirds of his sentence. Watkins was also sentenced alongside two mothers, who pleaded guilty to child abuse charges.
He admitted conspiring to rape a child, making or possessing indecent images of children and possessing an extreme pornographic image of a sex act on an animal.
The crimes were described as “plunging new depths of depravity.”
Back in 2017, a child was taken into care after Watkins was found to be grooming a mother from prison.
