The Prodigy frontman Keith Flint died as a result of hanging, the opening inquest into his death heard today (Monday March 11).
Flint was found dead at his Essex home last Monday (March 4). The surviving bandmates paid remembered Flint as “a true pioneer, innovator and legend”, before Liam Hewlett revealed that he had taken his own life.
“Police attended, all protocols were followed and his death was confirmed as not suspicious,” said coroner’s officer Lynsey Chaffe at the opening of the inquest today. It was also confirmed that his provisional cause of death had been reported as hanging during a postmortem at Broomfield hospital on 7 March, however this would remain under investigation while officials await the results of toxicology reports.

The inquest has been adjourned until July 23 for a full hearing.
“It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint,” said the surviving Prodigy members Liam Howlett and Maxim Reality in a statement after his passing. “A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time.”
Over the weekend, they also thanked fans for their continued support and tributes. The band have also cancelled all of their upcoming scheduled tour dates, with Emily Eavis revealing that the band were booked to play Glastonbury 2019.
Meanwhile, fans have launched a campaign to get their song ‘Firestarter’ to Number One and raise awareness for mental health and suicide support.
