Richard Hawley shares the video for ‘Off My Mind’, the first taste of new album ‘Further’

He's "playing like tomorrow may never happen"

Richard Hawley has announced his eighth album ‘Further’ – and shared the video for rock-driven lead single ‘Off My Mind’.

The Sheffield musician’s first record since 2015’s acclaimed ‘Hollow Meadows’ is out on June 7, and is his first for label BMG. It’s also Hawley’s first album to not be named after a landmark, phrase, or figure from his home city.

“I really wanted to challenge myself to try to keep things relatively up-tempo and keep the songs to about three minutes long,” Hawley said of the new album. “I was asking myself, ‘Can you get your message across like a bullet? Can you still do that?’ It’s quite a tough question to ask.”

Lead single ‘Off My Mind’ reflects this with a direct and riff-laden approach. Hawley describes the track as “playing like tomorrow may never happen.”

He’ll also be playing two intimate London shows on May 6 and 7, at EartH in Hackney. Tickets go on sale from 9am on March 9.

2019 is set to be a landmark year for Hawley in more ways than one. A new musical featuring his music, ‘Standing At The Sky’s Edge’, is due to premiere at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre this month.

With ‘Further’, Hawley – previously a member of Longpigs and most famously Pulp – will mark 20 years since he embarked on his solo career.
