R. Kelly is back in police custody

The singer was out on bail after being charged with sexually abusing four women

R. Kelly has been taken back into police custody, it has been reported.

The star was released on bail last month after being charged with sexually abusing four women. He faces 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse and is awaiting trial.

According to the Associated Press, Kelly was taken into custody while attending a hearing over unpaid child support.

Sophia Ansari, a spokesperson for Cook County Sheriff’s Office, said the singer would be transferred to the county jail. They did not know the reason for his detainment, including whether it related to the child support money he owes.

The Chicago Tribune reports Kelly owes his ex-wife Andrea Kelly and was warned last month that he could face jail time unless he paid more than $161,000 (£122.2k) in child support and interest.

Earlier today (March 6), Kelly gave his first major interview since being arrested over the sexual abuse allegations. He denied the claims once again, saying: “Whether they’re old rumours, new rumours, future rumours – not true.”

“How stupid would it be for me, with my crazy past and what I’ve been through – oh right now I just think I need to be a monster, and hold girls against their will, chain them up in my basement, and don’t let them eat, and don’t let them out,” he added.

Meanwhile, Joycelyn Savage – one of Kelly’s “girlfriends” whose parents claim is being held against her will – contacted her family for the first time in two years following the interview. “I have told you guys a million, million times that I am OK where I am and I’m happy, so I just want to let you know that,” she told her parents and sisters.
