Weezer have shared two new songs from their forthcoming ‘The Black Album’ and a new video.
The tracks – ‘High As A Kite’ and ‘Living In LA’ – were produced by TV On The Radio‘s Dave Sitek, as was the rest of the album. They follow the release of previous tracks ‘Zombie Bastards’ and ‘Can’t Knock The Hustle’.
The band have also posted a video for ‘High As A Kite’, which spoofs ’60s American children’s educational programme Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.
Entitled ‘Mister Rivers’ Neighborhood’ after frontman Rivers Cuomo, it ends with the band destroying the set. You can watch the video for ‘High As A Kite’ and listen to ‘Living In LA’ below.
‘The Black Album’, which will be the band’s 12th studio record, will be released on March 1, 2019 via Crush/Atlantic and is comprised of songs written on the piano by Cuomo. The record will feature “musical references of everything from Gorillaz, to Can, to Pink Floyd.”

‘The Black Album’ was first spoken of by Cuomo in February 2017, with the record originally intended to be a sequel to April 2016’s ‘The White Album’. However, Weezer instead took the decision to release ‘Pacific Daydream’ in October 2017, which halted the production of ‘The Black Album’.
Speaking to NME last October, Cuomo described the record as being “darker” and “more experimental and wildly negative”. “It’s experimenting with more modern electronic elements,” he added. “It has one foot in the future and one foot in the past. The foot in the past would be like The Jesus & Mary Chain.”
Meanwhile, Weezer recently invited a fan who sang the band’s 2001 track ‘Island In The Sun’ while undergoing brain surgery to join them onstage when they hit the road in the US this spring.
