Miley Cyrus has given an update on her next album, saying the record will be “genre-less”.
The pop star is currently working on the follow-up to 2017’s ‘Younger Now’, which saw her return to her Tennessee roots and go country.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, she revealed she was heading in a different direction on her next record. “There’s psychedelic elements, there’s pop elements, there’s more hip-hop-leaning records,” she explained. “You know, in the same way I like to kind of just be genderless, I like feeling genre-less.”
Cyrus also described the upcoming new music, which she plans to release by summer, as “just kind of a mosaic of all the things that I’ve been before.”
The singer recently collaborated with Mark Ronson on his latest single, ‘Nothing Breaks Like A Heart’. Speaking about the track during an appearance on On Air With Ryan Seacrest, she said: “[The song has] really important messages that I wanted to physically share. It was ‘What really breaks our heart?’ And it’s the loss of children, the loss of lives – just all the violence that we see every single day.
“We really focused on the video, on celebrity culture versus like the important things in life and how you can marry the two because politics are a big part of my life, but fun entertaining pop culture is also something I really love.”

She also revealed that Ronson had been working with her on her new album, which she called “some of the best music I’ve been able to make.”
Meanwhile, Cyrus was spotted filming for a reported appearance in the new series of Black Mirror late last year. She was seen shooting a part for the show in Cape Town, South Africa.
