The 1975‘s Matty Healy thanked Arctic Monkeys while accepting the Best British Album award at tonight’s BRITs. See the clip below.
Bagging their second statue of the evening, the frontman took the opportunity to show his appreciation to Alex Turner and the lads. The Monkeys were beaten by The 1975 in the Best British Group category earlier in the evening.
“[Thank you to] Arctic Monkeys for still being such an inspiring and relevant band in 2019,” the frontman said of the Sheffield group. “I know how hard that is.”
Describing the moment as “mad”, Healy concluded: “Thank you so much, we love you.”

The 1975 received their second accolade of the night for the critically-acclaimed album, ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships‘.
In December last year, Healy explained that he doesn’t ‘like feeling in competition’ with Arctic Monkeys, but believes The 1975 are ‘the band of this decade’.

“I’d say the band of the 2000s was Arctic Monkeys and I’d say the band of this decade has been my band. But of course I would,” he said.
Elsewhere in tonight’s BRITs ceremony, The 1975 recreated their recent arena spectacle with a performance of ‘Sincerity Is Scary’.
Earlier in the evening, Healy used his first winning speech to touch on ‘male misogynist acts’ amid recent allegations of abuse levelled at Ryan Adams.
Ahead of the double-win tonight, The 1975 played an intimate gig for BRITs week at London’s Garage earlier this week. Reviewing the show, NME said: “This latest intimate outing proves their worth as one of the country’s – nay, the world’s – very best pop groups.”
