Mike Shinoda on Linkin Park recruiting a new singer: “It has to happen naturally”

The musician has opened up about the band's future

Linkin Park‘s Mike Shinoda has discussed the possibility of recruiting a new vocalist for the band.

The musician has once again spoken about what the future holds for the ‘Hybrid Theory’ group following the death of their frontman, Chester Bennington.

Asked in a recent interview if the group would ever look for another singer, Shinoda told Rock Antenne: “That’s not my goal right now. I think it has to happen naturally. And if we find somebody that’s a great person that we think is a good personality fit and a good stylistic fit, then I could see trying to do some stuff with somebody.”

He added that the potential line-up change wouldn’t be “for the sake of replacing” Bennington, as he “wouldn’t wanna ever feel like we were replacing Chester”.

Elsewhere in the chat, Shinoda said that the band not being in the studio or onstage is “almost unhealthy”.

“If doing that means that we need to have some other people in the mix in order to do it and do it well, then we would do that,” he added.

“I think there are many fans that want to continue to see the guys onstage and wanna continue to hear the music,” Shinoda continued, explaining that there would be a demand for tickets if the band announced a live date.

The musician said that a continued “connection and interest” from fans would be “a driving force to figure it out”.

“But, like I said before, it has to happen naturally. I’m not running out and putting up ‘vocalist wanted’ posters. I think that’s wholly inappropriate and probably a terrible idea.”

Back in December last year, Linkin Park’s Dave “Phoenix” Farrell also hinted that new music from the band could emerge.

“We hang out quite a bit,” the bassist explained. “I think we will do music again. We all want to. We all still enjoy being together and being around each other.”
