Win Butler has revealed that Arcade Fire will share a new song this year.
The Arcade Fire frontman, who is a fan of the New Orleans Pelicans basketball team, was speaking on a basketball podcast when he was asked whether the band will drop any new music in 2019.
Speaking on The Ringer NBA Show, Butler said that the group are “just working on a track – it will actually be out sooner than later.”
“Really?”, the host asked, adding, “Possible Arcade Fire single coming out this year?” to which Butler replied: “Yeah.”
Arcade Fire’s last record was 2017’s ‘Everything Now’. In a five-star review, NME’s Barry Nicolson wrote: “The Canadian art-rockers are bigger, bolder and more fearful of the future than ever on their colossal fifth album.”
The band has been quiet on the music front since. Last summer, the band joined a group of 200 Canadian musicians in publishing an open letter in support of indigenous protestors.

The letter, which was also signed by Destroyer, US Girls, Pup, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, among others, followed the arrest of a group of activists who were defending indigenous land that belonged to the Wet’suwet’en Nation in British Columbia.
