Pete Davidson speaks out on leaving Instagram after worrying post and opens up on mental health advice

"Just don’t go online. It doesn’t make me very happy."

Pete Davidson has spoken about his decision to leave social media, after the comedian shared a post in which he stated he no longer “wants to be on this Earth anymore”.

The Saturday Night Live comedian deleted his accounts in December 2018 after sparking fears for his mental health following his split from Ariana Grande.

Describing his decision to leave social media, the star told Variety: “Yeah, I can’t go on there for obvious reasons.

“Just don’t go online. It doesn’t make me very happy. Even if it’s not about me, it’s random s*** like, ‘Trump farts’. I’m not a fan of it.”

At the time of the original post, it was initially feared that Davidson was planning to take his own life. However, police in New York later established that he was actually at the SNL studios at the time.

Davidson also appeared on SNL earlier this month, where he discussed his mental health battles.

Appearing in the Weekend Update segment of SNL last night, Davidson talked about the post in a brief discussion with John Mulaney.

“I’ve been spending time with Pete to try to show him that you can have a life in comedy that is not insane,” Mulaney said. “A sober, domestic life.”

Mulaney then said: “Look me in the eye. You are loved by many and we are glad you are okay.”

Earlier this month, Davidson also returned to stand-up with a routine that took aim at shamed SNL comedian Louis C.K.

The comeback set saw Davidson addressing his split from Ariana Grande, but he reportedly focused on tackling C.K. – who has recently returned to stand-up after admitting a string of sexual harassment allegations.
