The cast of Smack The Pony are working on a comeback two decades after the series premiered on Channel 4.
Fiona Allen, one of the Emmy-award winning sketch show’s main performers, told The Guardian that she is “working on reunion projects” with co-stars Sally Phillips and Doon Mackichan.
No official announcement has been made in light of Allen’s comments, however Phillips alluded to a reunion in the same article. “I think the time has perhaps come for an entirely period-based sketch show: The Big Red One. We used to joke about that,” she said.
Smack The Pony was created by Victoria Pile (Green Wing) and ran for three series from 1999-2003. Each episode featured numerous comedy skits ranging from the banal to the bizarre.
The show’s central stars – Allen, Phillips, and Mackichan – were joined by series regulars Sarah Alexander, Darren Boyd, and Cavan Clerkin.
A one-off Smack The Pony sketch was produced for Red Nose Day 2017.

In 2013 Mackichan told the Radio Times: “We will have to wait and see what happens and whether they will want to bring it out of the stable. But we would love to get the old nag out again.
“So much has happened to us all, as mothers and women, there’s a lot that is funny about where we are now. There are years of pain to draw on,” she said.
