Rihanna reportedly suing her father for use of the Fenty brand name

RiRi launched 'Fenty Beauty' in 2017

Rihanna is taking legal action against her father after he allegedly used her Fenty brand to launch his own company, it has been reported.

The pop star – full name Robyn Rihanna Fenty – used her surname for her own cosmetics brand, Fenty Beauty. The company was set up in 2017 and offers a wide range of products to be inclusive of all genders and skin tones.

Despite the word being trademarked to the singer, her father Ronald Fenty launched a talent development company called Fenty Entertainment that same year.

Now, TMZ reports that Rihanna is suing her father and has accused him of profiting from herself and the brand’s reputation.

In documents obtained by the publication, Rihanna claims that her father also unsuccessfully attempted to file a trademark for Fenty for a resort of boutique hotels.

After saying that Rihanna sent multiple cease and desist letters to Ronald Fenty, she is said to have asked a judge to place an injunction on him to halt unauthorised use of the brand name. Rihanna claims that her father has ignored previous letters and continues to earn from Fenty Entertainment.

Elsewhere in the documents, the singer is also said to have accused her father and his business partner of falsely advertising themselves as her representatives in order to solicit millions of dollars. It’s claimed that the pair attempted to book the star for 15 shows in Latin America in 2017 without her authorisation.

Meanwhile, Rihanna recently revealed that her upcoming new album will arrive this year. When asked by a fan on Instagram when the ‘Anti’ follow-up will be released, she replied: “2019”.

The ‘Umbrella’ star’s vocal producer also gave an update on the “incredible” LP. “R9 is great. R9 is amazing. It’s incredible. And that’s all I’m going to say,” he said.
