Watch St Vincent nail an acoustic cover of Red Chili Peppers’ ‘Breakin’ The Girl’

Annie Clark has previously covered Lou Reed and Blondie

St. Vincent has covered the Red Hot Chili Peppers 1992 track ‘Breakin’ The Girl’ at a benefit concert for victims of the recent Woolsey wildfire in California.

The singer took to an acoustic guitar for the recent performance at the Malibu Love Sesh at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Palladium, which you can watch below. The Chili Peppers were headlining the event.

She also gave a shout-out to the band’s guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who apparently helped her work out the cover backstage.

“I wanna give a very special thank you to Josh Klinghoffer for fucking bitching guitar playing, but also for correcting my chords just about 20 minutes ago,” she said.

St Vincent has previously performed Lou Reed and Blondie covers, the latter of which saw her joined by Dave Grohl and Beck.

It was also recently confirmed that Annie Clark is working on Sleater-Kinney‘s new album. Guitarist Carrie Brownstein said of the team up: “We always planned on getting back in the studio — it was just a matter of when. If there is an overarching principle to this album, it’s that the tools on which we were relying proved inadequate. So we sought new ones, both metaphorically and literally.”

The studio collaboration comes after St. Vincent covered Sleater-Kinney’s ‘Modern Girl’ last year, having previously collaborated with Carrie Brownstein in a series of comedy clips that featured Clark fielding common interview questions to promote the acclaimed ‘MASSEDUCTION‘.

Speaking to NME about her next record, St Vincent said that she plans to go “just, really heavy. Go really hard.”

“I don’t know what the next thing is, she continued. “I always have really rad ideas like, ‘Oh, it’s going to be Skinny Puppy meets Dillinger Escape Plan!’ But you just get in there and the music tells you what it wants to be.”
