Ryan Adams has paid tribute to Manchester in the second track to be shared from his upcoming new album, ‘Big Colors’.
‘Manchester’, which follows both Friday’s ‘Doylestown Girl’ and the news that the musician will release three albums this year, features lyrics referencing the north-western area.
“Oldham streets/Built to bruise/Freckled face/And a pair of shuffling shoes,” Adams sings in the opening verse, while the track also boasts some Johnny Marr-esque guitar lines. You can listen to the track below.

In a statement sent to XS Manchester, the radio station that premiered the track, Adams said: “Manchester, the city and music of this mystical place shaped my entire life. It is at the heart of all the things I love about music from The Smiths, Joy Division, Oasis, New Order, Simply Red and The Stone Roses. I wanted to make sure this song ‘Manchester’ played first and only in this city I love so much. I hope you enjoy this and cannot wait to be back soon.”
‘Big Colors’ is set to be released on April 19. It was produced by Grammy Award-winning Latin producer Beatriz Artola and Don Was. Two more records – ‘Wednesdays’ and an as-yet-untitled release – will follow before the end of 2019.
