Nas addresses police brutality with ‘Cops Shot the Kid’ video – watch

It's a powerful message

Nas has shared the music video for his song, ‘Cops Shot the Kid’, which features on his latest album ‘Nasir’.

In the video, a young black man is harassed by two white police officers and is later shot as he flees them with his hands raised. The visuals jar with cuts to Nas walking on a beach at sunset.

Slick Rick, whose ‘Children’s Story’ is sampled on the track, makes a cameo in the video.

In NME’s three star review of ‘Nasir’ – Nas’ first record in six years, which was produced by Kanye West – Liz Aubrey wrote: “Whilst stylistically ‘Nasir’ may well have plenty of strong moments, its contradictions make it a difficult, problematic listen: it’s the silences on here which so often deafen.”

Last November, Nas released a short film, NASIR – The Film, which was soundtracked by his 2018 album of the same name.

The 16-minute film implements vocals from each of the seven tracks featured on the New York rapper’s latest record, but also explores social and economic issues that affect minority communities.
