New photos from Rocketman have been released – and it seems like Taron Egerton is entirely channelling the spirit of Elton John for the role.
The musical biopic is set for release in May this year and stars Egerton as the iconic musician, tracing his journey as he rises to global fame in the 1970s.
But in one of the clearest pictures to have emerged so far, it seems like Egerton is an uncanny fit. He appears to be in full rock star mode, sporting a white leather jacket, garish sunglasses and a shirt that boasts a plunging neckline.

The new look at Egerton follows other recently released production stills – which are similarly uncanny. In one, he’s in full flow during his now legendary performance at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium in 1975. Another snap shows him in full musician mode, sitting in front of a microphone at a recording studio.

The latest look at Egerton in the role comes after the first Rocketman trailer was released in November. The first clip suggests that the film promises to be a life-spanning examination of Elton’s career – with brief snippets shown of his childhood and battles with personal demons.
“There are moments in a rockstar’s life that define who he is”, a voiceover teases.
As the one-minute teaser comes to a close, we finally see Egerton performing live as Elton for the first time, delivering a rendition of the iconic titular track.
The film, directed by Bohemian Rhapsody‘s Dexter Fletcher, will also see Jamie Bell star as Elton’s songwriting partner Bernie Taupin and Bryce Dallas Howard as his mother.
It’s set for release on May 31.
