Adele, Stormzy, Akala and Marcus Mumford lead campaign for national change in powerful ‘Grenfell United’ video

"This isn't a charity film, this is a clarity film," says Stormzy

Adele, Stormzy, Marcus Mumford and Akala are among some of the stars joining Grenfell United in a powerfully emotional new video.

In the early hours of June 14, 2017, 72 people were killed in the blaze at the west London tower block, with hundreds more left homeless. In the new video, the celebrities are joined by survivors of the terrible fire, as well as families and friends of those lost last year.

“Eighteen months on from the Grenfell tower fire that killed 72 people in central London, stars including Stormzy, Adele, Marcus Mumford and Akala have joined with Grenfell United, the survivors, and families bereaved by the fire in an appeal for national change,” a description reads.

“This isn’t a charity film, this is a clarity film,” says Stormzy at the beginning of the clip. Those on camera share their stories of the awful event: “I was in a coma for two weeks,” a young girl says.

“Politicians can’t just let this fade away and leave everything to stay the same,” Akala adds after it’s revealed that there are still 441 towers with cladding. Those in the video explain that they don’t want money or sympathy – they are demanding change.

Adele also sent out a rare tweet in support of the clip. “FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS – NEVER FORGET GRENFELL,” she wrote.

Earlier this year, Stormzy urged Theresa May to take action in Grenfell Tower inquiry following a bold BRIT Awards performance.

With rain falling, Stormzy called out May and the Mail during his performance, delivering the lyrics in a new freestyle, “Theresa May where’s the money for Grenfell? / What you thought we just forgot about Grenfell?” and suggesting that the Daily Mail “suck my dick”.

The freestyle came during the performance of his hits ‘Blinded By Your Grace’ and ‘Big For Your Boots’.
