Listen to Coldplay’s new collaboration with Pharrell – under a brand new band name

This is not a drill

Coldplay have shared new music under a brand new band name, Los Unidades.

Fans speculated earlier this week Parlophone’s “new signing” was actually the award-winning band after the label posted a shadowy picture of the mysterious act on Twitter. Users pointed out the figures looked remarkably similar to Coldplay.

The band also liked the tweet, while Coldplay fan account ColdplayXtra claimed to have discovered a legal trademark agreement which listed the owners of Los Unidades as Chris Martin, Jon Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion.

Now, the first track from Los Unidades has been released as part of the ‘Global Citizen EP 1’ charity record, spearheaded by Martin. ‘E-Lo’ features Pharrell Williams and Jozzy – you can listen to it below.

Meanwhile, sources close to the band have previously hinted that they are working on new material, with their friend and collaborator Mat Whitecross revealing that they were planning on being back in the studio next year.

Having known the band since university, Supersonic director Whitecross recently released ‘A Head Full Of Dreams‘ – a new film that tells the full 20 year history of the band via up-close, personal and unseen footage. “They’re on a sabbatical at the moment so they’ve been ruthlessly on holiday for a year,” Whitecross told NME.

“They’ve never done that before. I don’t know if you can call Chris a workaholic because he loves what he does; he’s in and out of the studio writing three or four songs a day…This year, they decided to take off. They haven’t been doing anything as far as I know, but they do have plans for next year however I’ve not been party to them.”

Asked if he knew anything about where the band plan to take their sound on their upcoming eighth album, Whitecross replied: “I’ve heard a few things and filmed a few bits of them talking about it, but I don’t think I’m allowed to share anything. It’s interesting.”
