Mariah Carey has revealed she has a rule when it comes to performing her iconic Christmas track, ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.
The singer appeared on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon over the weekend and explained that since she spends most of the Christmas season singing the song, she won’t hear or sing it until after Thanksgiving is over.
She added: “I have this rule where I try to get through Thanksgiving. I don’t like when people rush it because once I start I don’t stop until after New Year.”

The classic Christmas track was originally released in 1994 and according to Economist, has netted over £60 million of royalties over the subsequent festive seasons – making it one of the highest grossing Christmas songs of all time.
In September, Carey teased an ‘All I Want For Christmas’ UK tour and posted a clip of herself with sleigh bells ringing on Twitter.

Speaking about her career on the show, Carey added that she was shocked to see her 2001 album ‘Glitter’ re-enter the charts in the US and bag the number one spot on iTunes following a fan campaign on Twitter.
The singer joked: “[Glitter] almost ruined my life and now #JusticeforGlitter is a movement. Whoever thought it was going to get to number one all these years later? But it is a good album.”

Glitter, Carey’s eighth studio album, was also the soundtrack of a film starring the singer and a departure from her usual style. However, the eighties disco era tracks had a lukewarm reception from critics and Carey admits she rarely plays them live.
The singer also performed her new single, ‘The Distance’ with Ty Dolla $ign on the show.
Earlier this year, Carey revealed her bipolar diagnosis and said she had been living in “denial and isolation and constant fear.”
The singer also hit out at the Grammys, claiming she had been “screwed” out of winning any of the awards.
