ZZ Top announce UK and Europe dates for 50th anniversary tour

More shows are to be announced

ZZ Top have announced three European shows for 2019, including a concert at London’s SSE Wembley Arena.

The tour is planned to mark the band’s 5oth anniversary, and more dates are promised.

The trio are currently scheduled to play Prague Rocks in the Czech Republic on June 19, Barcelona Rocks Festival on July 5, and Wembley Arena on July 12.

Australian musician Jimmy Barnes is the support act for the London show.

According to Loudersound, guitarist and vocalist Billy F. Gibbons said: “It’s been 50 years, and I think we’re starting to get pretty good! We’re just as excited to play Barcelona this summer as we were to play Beaumont, Texas, back in 1969.

“The beards are, perhaps, a bit longer, but nothing much else has changed and we hope to keep it that way.”

Earlier this year, Gibbons released a new solo album. ‘The Big Bad Blues’ features a collection of original songs as well as covers of some classic blues songs including Muddy Waters’ ‘Rollin’ and Tumblin” and ‘Standing Around Crying.’

Gibbons, along with bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard, have been playing together solidly since their formation in 1969.

Last year, Gibbons joined forces with Guns ‘N’ Roses for a rendition of Roses’ 1989 track ‘Patience’, with Gibbons adding his unique guitar style to the slow-burning ‘Lies’ track.

The two bands previously performed together in 2013 for a version of ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’.
