Disney announces Rogue One prequel series, starring Diego Luna

"We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us".

Disney has confirmed that their new streaming service will feature a Rogue One prequel series that focuses on Cassian Andor, Diego Luna‘s character from the acclaimed 2016 film.

After confirming details of James Mangold’s The Mandalorian, Disney says that Luna will reprise the role for a second Star Wars show set in the years prior to Rogue One.

An official description states that it will follow “the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One… The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”

“Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” Luna said in a statement.

“I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

On Thursday, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that Disney’s streaming service will be called Disney+.

It was previously confirmed that Jon Favreau will create The Mandalorian –  named after bounty hunter Boba Fett’s race from the planet Mandalore.

However, it won’t focus on Fett – it’ll instead tell the tale of a gunfighter, set in the three decades between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
