Lynyrd Skynyrd announce 2019 farewell UK tour

The long-running Southern rock band will play their final shows on these shores next summer

Lynyrd Skynyrd have announced their final ever UK live dates.

The long-running band, who first formed in Jacksonville in 1964, are set to bow out next year after completing a farewell tour across the globe. They’re currently saying their goodbyes on the North American leg of the ‘Last Of The Street Survivors Farewell Tour’.

Lynyrd Skynyrd will head to Europe next June for a final set of gigs on this side of the pond, with the tour including four live dates in the UK. They’ll be supported by Status Quo for those UK gigs, which will kick off at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro Arena on June 26.

Speaking about the farewell tour, founding member Gary Rossington said: “It’s hard to imagine, after all these years, the band that Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins and myself started back in Jacksonville, would resonate for this long and to so many generations of fans. I’m certain they are looking down from above, amazed that the music has touched so many.”

Lead vocalist Johnny Van Zant added: “We’ve been blessed by these great songs and the messages they carry to the fans. It’s been a true honour to try and fill in my brother’s footsteps for the past 31 years, keeping the music and his spirit alive.”
