Iggy Azalea has revealed that she is “officially unsigned” and left Island Records after only nine months at the label.

The rapper took to Twitter today (November 3) to announce the news that she has parted ways with the label after signing with the label in February.

Her post read: “I’m officially unsigned !!!! ?? Wild you spend so long trying to get IN a record deal… never thought I’d be so elated to be OUT of one. now I’m free to release whatever kinda music I like, whenever I’d like woooo! ????”

When asked by fans about new music, she explained: “Well still no music this year tho… Iam no where near ready direction wise etc with the stuff I’ve been working on and I don’t wanna jump the gun and have some messy era aesthetically. I’m aiming to be ready to share new music early next year!”

Fellow rapper CupcakKe replied to Azalea’s tweet, saying “I been tryna tell mfs this the whole time ….. stay independent man .. why get 65 cent when you can get the full $1”.

The Australian rapper first signed to Def Jam back in 2013, but left in February this year after hinting at a disagreement with label CEO Steve Bartels over disappointing sales. Azalea then signed to Island Records. Both labels are owned by the Universal Music Group.

A few days ago, the ‘Fancy’ rapper posted on social media that she was unhappy with Island, posting in now-deleted tweets that: “I love Island, but don’t want a label, there are conversations happening at the moment. I want to be my own boss. I feel I would be better off if I could make my own timeline etc choices and I have the funds to do it.”

Azalea has the name of her never-released second album ‘Digital Distortion’ tattooed on her fingers. The album’s release was cancelled after her management staged an intervention and the rapper agreed to spend time in therapy working on the anger issues.
