The Cure announce their first Scottish gig in 27 years at Glasgow Summer Sessions 2019

They'll be joined by Mogwai and The Twilight Sad

The Cure have announced details of their first Scottish gig in 27 years, with a huge show at Glasgow Summer Sessions 2019. Tickets are on sale now and available here.

Joined by special guests and native heroes Mogwai and The Twilight Sad, the band are the first headliner announced for Glasgow Summer Sessions 2019. They’ll be performing on Friday August 16.

“When The Cure last played Scotland in 1992, I went to all four shows (Dundee, Glasgow and twice in Edinburgh), skiving school at least once,” said Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite. “If I’d known that the wait to see them play here again would be so long, I’d have been very shocked. I’d have been even more shocked but more so delighted that I’d be in a band opening for them 27 years later.

“I’m beyond excited and honoured to be part of this bill. The Cure are my favourite band and getting to play with them in our home town alongside our great friendsThe Twilight Sad is something really special.”

The Twilight Sad’s James Graham added: “Having toured the world with The Cure over the past few years, the one question we’re always asked when we come home is ‘When are The Cure coming to Glasgow? Have a word with Robert please!’

“We’re delighted that we can now share the stage with one of our favourite bands in our home town.”

Described by The Cure’s Robert Smith as “the best band playing the best songs – consistently brilliant, emotional, intense, inspiring, entertaining,” The Twilight Sad were hand-picked to support The Cure on all recent world tour dates. He also advised the band on the creation of their new album ‘IT WON’T BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME‘ – which arrives on January 18 via Mogwai’s Rock Action Records.

“We sent him the demoes for the album and he sent them all back with a mark out of ten,” frontman James Graham told NME earlier this summer. “He was like ‘7/10, but could be a nine if you do this’.

“Most people like that would just play the gig and fuck off, but Robert really gives a fuck about the music he loves. If you’d told us five years ago that we’d become friends with Robert Smith to just go up to him and slag him and talk shite to him – it’s mind-blowing. He’s just a nice guy who wants people to do the best that he can.”

As well as being rumoured as one of the headliners for Glastonbury 2019, The Cure also have a number of other world other dates set up while they prepare to release new material next year.
