Emma Bunton to host US version of ‘The Great British Bake Off’

Spiced bun(ton), anyone?

Emma Bunton has been announced as the new presenter of the US version of The Great British Bake Off.

The Great American Baking Show is back on US screens later this year, with Paul Hollywood returning as judge.

The ex-Spice Girls member, who was known as ‘Baby Spice’ in the band, said it was her “dream job”.

Announcing the news on her Heart Radio show, Bunton said: “Christmas time, eating cake and having such a brilliant time with Spice, Sherry and Paul…”

Sherry Yard joins Paul Hollywood on the judging panel, and Bunton will co-host with American footballer Anthony ‘Spice’ Adams.

Bunton also revealed that she has started filming for the programme. “Just being in the famous tent – honestly it took me a week to get used to being in the tent,” she said.

“I had lots of fun with Paul. He’s got a great sense of humour. I did watch out for him [though, as] he can be trouble. He’s got those eyes. Don’t look in his eyes!”

Covering a baking show for US TV has meant that some of the British baking terms have got lost in translation, however.

“There was this whole biscuit week and I was like it was ‘it’s biscuit week’ and they were ‘oh no, it’s cookie week’ and I was like, ‘Hang on, I’m the expert in biscuits,” she explained.

The Great American Baking Show was pulled off the air last year following sexual harassment allegations surrounding judge Johnny Iuzzini.
