Biffy Clyro on headlining Glastonbury: ‘It’s got to happen’

They also say their new album will be 'like a tight fist'

Biffy Clyro‘s Simon Neil has spoken of how he believes the band are destined to one day headline Glastonbury Festival.

The band have headlined the likes of Reading & Leeds, Sonisphere, T In The Park and Isle Of Wight Festival in the past – but never Glastonbury. Now, Neil has said that the band are ready to step up after the release of their next album.

“We’re ready for it, we love Glastonbury, we’d love to do it,” Neil told Bang Showbiz. “I think the next six months to a year we’re going to be working on our new album, so I don’t think the timing will be right for next year. But it’s got to happen.”

Speaking of the sound of their new material, Neil suggested that it will head in a much heavier direction following their recent ‘MTV: Unplugged’ album.

“Our next album will be a reaction to the acoustic album, it’s going to be like a tight fist,” said Neil. “We went on tour for the unplugged record we made, I’ve played a lot of acoustic guitar the past year so I’m ready to plug in and make a racket.”

Speaking to NME about future projects, the band revealed that they were at work on two albums and a film.

“We’ve been working on a lot of new music,” said Neil. “We’re working on two records concurrently at the moment.

“We’re doing one record for a movie which will be filmed once we’ve finished it. It’s this really cool kind of collaboration with this Welsh director called Jamie Adams. He’s a fantastic director. He makes some really hilarious movies, but this one will not be funny!”

He continued: “We’re writing the soundtrack and some of the script will come from some of the lyrics in the songs. It’s this constantly changing thing at the moment, but we’ve got the songs picked. Then at the same time we’re working on ‘Opus 8’, which is our working title for the next Biffy album.

“That’s going great and we’re just doing what we do.”
