Slam Dunk Birmingham has been cancelled due to 2019 revamp – and fans aren’t happy

There's a site change for the event's northern leg, too.

Slam Dunk Festival‘s Birmingham leg has been cancelled as part of the event’s 2019 revamp. See organisers’ full statement below.

The annual one-dayer has previously taken place at three locations across England – held in Leeds, Hatfield, and Birmingham. This year, the festival’s southern leg expanded to an outdoor site due to higher demand from fans.

Now, Slam Dunk have announced plans to revamp once again for 2019’s edition.

Next year will see its northern leg move from Millenium Square in Leeds to Temple Newsam Park. The new site has previously hosted Leeds Festival and V.

However, the move means that Slam Dunk’s Midlands leg has been scrapped. “Going forward, we have two large outdoor sites where we have much more flexibility to deliver what you want,” organisers said. “Unfortunately this means we are unable to run a third day, so Slam Dunk Festival Midlands will not be happening in 2019.”

Fans in the Midlands aren’t happy about the news, with one calling the cancellation “devastating”.

“I think it would be more justified if they had camping or hotel partnerships like Download or if it was longer than a day,” a Twitter user posted, “there’s not much incentive to go for just the day trip unless the lineup is completely solid.”

Another fan said: “So Leeds is now in the middle of nowhere and Midlands doesn’t exist thanks slam dunk.”

Meanwhile, Slam Dunk have promised that details of the first line-up announcement are “coming very soon”.

2018’s festival welcomed performances from the likes of Jimmy Eat World, Good Charlotte, Creeper and PVRIS
