Listen to Jack White covering Blondie as rare 90’s cassette recording is uncovered

The rare tape was uncovered in a basement and has never been heard before

A rare recording of Jack White covering Blondie has been found by Third Man Records co-founder and White Stripes archivist Ben Blackwell.

According to Blackwell, White worked as a session engineer in the ’90s for a band called 400 Pounds of Punk while they were recording a cassette titled ‘He Once Ate A Small Child’.

Recently, Blackwell found the cassette in his basement and said the release “was completely undocumented” until now.

Included on the tape is a cover of Blondie‘s ‘One Way or Another’ and features White on vocals. In an essay on Discogs, Blackwell says the track is “the rarest physical release of a Jack White performance.” You can listen to the track below now.

Recently, White donated $30,000 to help preserve the iconic house featured in classic 1983 Francis Ford Coppola film The Outsiders.

The house in Tulsa, Oklahoma has been the focus of a fundraising appeal to transform it into The Outsiders House Museum. The Press Herald revealed that it was White’s gift that helped meet the $75,000 fundraising goal.

Last month (September 21), a new documentary titled Jack White: Kneeling At The Anthem D.C. was released by Amazon. The film featured previously unseen live footage, as well as scenes of the musician exploring America’s capital city.

The documentary was accompanied by a six-song live EP that included recordings from White’s performance at D.C. venue The Anthem.
