Check out our stunning, exclusive photoshoot with Halsey – from the tattoo parlour to backstage

Watching Halsey’s rise over the last few years has been a thrill. She’s a truly inventive pop star who not only writes huge jams but puts her all into delivering everything – merch, videos, tours – in the most artistic way possible. Those are just some of the reasons NME had to catch up with her when she brought her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom tour to the UK and Europe last month. While she was here, photographer Jenn Five spent some time with Halsey, following her to a tattoo parlour and backstage at London’s Eventim Apollo. The photos that came out of that day are stunning and show an artist at the top of her game looking relaxed, cool, and – yep – dangerous.

When Halsey told us in this week’s Big Read that she can be “really fucking dangerous” we didn’t think she meant “licking the grimy window frames of Hammersmith Apollo” dangerous but…

When you start thinking of a great idea in the middle of a photoshoot…

And then the eureka moment really hits.

Nothing to see here, just one of the world’s best pop stars hanging backwards out a window while having a smoke.

When someone says they don’t “get” Halsey, hit them with this soul-burning, intense stare.

Halsey doing an impression of the rest of the world getting inked: trying really hard to pretend it doesn’t hurt and we’re totally cool and fine, man.
