Oli Sykes’ Sheffield bar is selling an Arctic Monkeys ‘Tranquility’ beer

The Brew From The Afternoon...

A bar owned by Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes is selling a beer in honour of Arctic Monkeys returning to their native Sheffield.

The band, who are currently in the midst of a UK arena tour to promote their acclaimed 2018 album ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino‘, played the first of their string of Sheffield dates last night – outing a piano version of their single ‘Fluorescent Adolescent‘.

To celebrate, Sykes’ own bar, cafe and arcade ‘Church’ is selling a beer called ‘Tranquility’. Located in Osborn Works on Rutland Road, Church have joined in the Monkeys events taking place on Sheffield’s Kelham Island – including a photo exhibition has already been announced to be held at Kelham Island Arts Collective, showcasing previously unseen photos of the band taken by Zackery Michael.

It was recently announced that an Arctic Monkeys fan village will open in Sheffield to coincide with the shows.Fans should head to Kelham Island to sample a range of local beers, while listening to Arctic Monkeys’ back catalogue, and tunes from other Sheffield bands. When presenting their gig tickets, attendees will get a free pint for every three pints bought within the village.

Church say that £20 from every keg of the 4.2% blonde craft ale sold will also be donated to Sheffield Cathedral’s Archer Project.

This comes after Oli Sykes recalled a recent meeting with Turner – and shared his admiration of their latest album.

“It’s always the best stuff you don’t get right away,” he explained. “You’re like, ‘Oh no, this ain’t right, this isn’t them. This isn’t what I know.’ And then after a week or two, or even a month, you realise, ‘Oh this is amazing’, and it’s not that it’s better than the thing that came before, but it’s different.”

He continued: “Arctic Monkeys are actually one of my favourite bands going, which is really weird cos I went to school and college with them.”

Recalling meeting Turner backstage at a festival last summer, Sykes went on: “He actually remembered me from school. He was like, ‘Yo, yo, I’ve been waiting for ages to meet you.’ I were like, ‘No way you remember me.’ It was really cool cos I was like, ‘This is weird, I’m inside fanboying but I shouldn’t be cos I know this guy. I went to school with him.”

Sykes added that he “really admired” Arctic Monkeys and praised them for constantly pushing their sound forward. “You know for a fact that, whatever the next album’s going to be, it’s not going to be the same as the last one,” he said.

“I just think that’s so cool. This one’s a bit more of maybe a passion project and it hasn’t got the hits like the last one [2013’s ‘AM’]. I love everything he says and I love how he always pushes that box out and [makes you go], ‘Oh my god, I can’t believe he’s said or done something like that.’ He just always surprises you.”

Meanwhile, fans have also started a petition for Arctic Monkeys to play Knebworth Park.
