Watch Arctic Monkeys play ‘Fluorescent Adolescent’ at Sheffield homecoming

"We’re the Arctic Monkeys from High Green baby!"

Arctic Monkeys kicked off their huge string of homecoming shows in Sheffield last night – and they marked the occasion by delivering a very special cover of ‘Fluorescent Adolescent.’

Despite not playing the ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’ track since 2014, it received a special rendition that saw frontman Alex Turner performing on piano. Footage of the stripped-back performance shows Turner delivering the first verse and chorus, before segueing straight into ‘One Point Perspective’.

You can watch footage of the performance below.

At the start of the show, Turner also briefly touched upon returning home to the city where the world-beaters first started out.

“We’re the Arctic Monkeys from High Green baby!”, Turner told the crowd.

“I ain’t seen ya in ages.”

The band will return to Sheffield’s FlyDSA Arena tonight, before concluding with a further two shows on Friday & Saturday.

Meanwhile, it was recently announced that an Arctic Monkeys fan village will open in Sheffield to coincide with the shows.

Fans should head to Kelham Island to sample a range of local beers, while listening to Arctic Monkeys’ back catalogue, and tunes from other Sheffield bands. When presenting their gig tickets, attendees will get a free pint for every three pints bought.

Any remaining tickets for their tour are available to purchase here.
