Franz Ferdinand to headline Edinburgh’s Hogmanay 2019

"There is nowhere in the world like Scotland to celebrate it."

Franz Ferdinand will play a huge homecoming show on New Year’s Eve, headlining Edinburgh’s Hogmanay for the first time.

The Scottish indie heroes will take top billing at the Princes Street Gardens show, supported by Metronomy. Tickets will go on sale on 10am on Monday September 3 and you can buy them here.

Singer Alex Kapranos said: ““Hogmanay is the greatest party of the year and there is nowhere in the world like Scotland to celebrate it. Just thinking about bringing in the bells in Edinburgh gets me excited. It’s going to be some night!”

The line-up for the New Year’s Eve show is completed by Glasgow band Free Love, comprised of duo Suzanne Rodden and Lewis Cook.

The show comes after Franz Ferdinand returned with ‘Always Ascending’, which was recently nominated for Scottish album of the year.

Describing the record, Kapranos told NME: “It’s experimental in the sense that it’s lots of stuff that you haven’t maybe heard on our previous records, but it still sounds like Franz Ferdinand, and there’s still bangers on it.

“It might sound different to our other records but people still want to get up and dance to it.”
