Dave Grohl has revealed that unseen footage and material from the all-star Nirvana reunion shows from a club gig around the 2014 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame will one day be released.
Back in 2014, Lorde, St Vincent, Joan Jett and Sonic Youth‘s Kim Gordon fronted the band with the remaining members of Nirvana (bassist Krist Novoselic, Grohl and guitarist Pat Smear) for a special performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction before and a tiny, Brooklyn after-party show at Saint Vitus Bar saw them also joined by J Mascis and John McAuley.
Now in an interview with Rolling Stone, Grohl has said that they have plenty of unseen footage from the more intimate gig that they hope to one day release.
“When we realised that we were going to do it, I just called the people from my production company and said, ‘We need to film this,’ and we loaded some cameras in there and and shot it without knowing what would ever come of it,” said Grohl. “But it would be a shame for that evening to be only a memory and and we’ve got it. And it was fucking great. It was cathartic and everybody involved, I think, understood that they were part of something like a dream.
“I remember playing and looking and seeing Carrie Brownstein in the front row in the pit singing along to every song and, you know, getting to play drums behind Joan Jett or, god, playing ‘School’ or fucking ‘Pennyroyal Tea’ with J Mascis.”
Grohl added: “It really was amazing. It was something else. Someday, I’m sure everybody’ll see it.”

Meanwhile, a recent interview also saw Dave Grohl admit that he “still can’t listen to Nirvana” sine Cobain’s passing.
“For years I couldn’t even listen to any music, let alone a Nirvana song,” said Grohl. “When Kurt died, every time the radio came on, it broke my heart. I don’t put Nirvana records on, no. Although they are always on somewhere. I get in the car, they’re on. I go into a shop, they’re on. For me, it’s so personal.”
“I remember everything about those records; I remember the shorts I was wearing when we recorded them or that it snowed that day. Still, I go back and find new meanings to Kurt’s lyrics,” he continued.
Grohl added: “Not to seem revisionist, but there are times when it hits me. You go, ‘Wow, I didn’t realise he was feeling that way at the time’. Nirvana, for me, was a personal revolution, I was 21. You remember being 21? You think you know it all. But you don’t. I thought I knew everything. And being in Nirvana showed me how little I really knew.
“They were some of the greatest highs of my life, but also, of course, one of the biggest lows.”
