Muse have shared a video, suggesting that they’re back in the studio working on their upcoming eighth album.
Earlier this year, the Devonshire space rock trio confirmed that they’ll be playing just a handful of shows this year and hopefully releasing a new album later in 2018. It looks like progress is being made, after frontman Matt Bellamy shared a video of sticksman Dom Howard recording tribal drums – suggesting a diverse range of sounds on the upcoming record:

This comes after the band dropped the surprise singles ‘Dig Down‘ and ‘Thought Contagion‘ – which they’ve promised will appear on the new record.
Last month, Bellamy and Howard shared a video detailing the band’s plans for the year. With a short run of festival dates announced for the summer, it doesn’t look like many more are on the way – but their album should hopefully be out this year.
“So our plan for 2018 is to make a bunch of new songs, and probably a new album as well,” said Bellamy. “We’ll put out a couple of singles and we’ll do like five or six shows – some big festivals in the US that we’ve never done before.
“We’re very excited to play Bonnaroo, BottleRock in Napa Valley and Carolina Rebellion.”

Speaking to NME earlier this year, the band also opened up about their future.
“We’re going to do the biggest tour and just blow people’s minds with stuff they’ve never seen before,” frontman Matt Bellamy told NME.
“We’re going to come up with something that no one’s ever seen before. We’re always interested in the latest technology and what’s cutting edge, so we’re always thinking of the new thing that nobody’s ever used before in a concert. And we found something and we’re going to use that.”
“We’ve been working on a lot of new music,” Bellamy added, “we’re going to release more new songs this year, working towards an album which will come out some time soon.”
The band have confirmed that the project was still very much a ‘work in progress‘.
Meanwhile, Muse also recently announced details of their brand new live concert movie for their Drones World Tour. The film hits cinemas worldwide on July 12 for one night only. For tickets and more information, visit here.
