Courtney Love and Frances Bean win legal battle to deny access to Kurt Cobain’s death photos

Journalist Richard Lee sought the pictures under Washington State’s Public Records Act

Courtney Love and Frances Bean Cobain have won a court case that seals the photos of Kurt Cobain‘s death.

Journalist Richard Lee, who is a long-term believer that Cobain was murdered, sought the pictures under the Washington State’s Public Records Act.

Lee sued the city of Seattle and its police department in 2014 and is described by the courts as “a conspiracy theorist who believes that Mr. Cobain was murdered.”

He has researched the Nirvana frontman’s death for years, while also hosting a public access TV show called Now See It Person to Person: Kurt Cobain Was Murdered.

The case was originally thrown out in 2015 after Superior Court Judge Theresa Doyle stated that Lee had improperly served the lawsuit to the city and failed to give officials adequate time to address his public records request. She also added that releasing the images would be “highly offensive to a reasonable person.”

Lee appealed the verdict last year, causing Courtney Love and Frances Bean Cobain to testify to block Lee’s case.

According to The Blast, Cobain’s family won the case, ensuring that images from four rolls of film taken at the scene of Kurt Cobain’s death 1994 will be sealed from public view.

Meanwhile, Kurt Cobain’s iconic MTV Unplugged guitar has been awarded to Frances Bean’s ex in divorce settlement.

Frances Bean and Isaiah Silva officially divorced back in November and Cobain’s guitar has been at the centre of the two-year legal battle.

Silva claims that Frances gave him the guitar as a gift and that he had the instrument in his possession when she filed for divorce in March 2016. Silva will now get to keep the guitar in the final settlement.
