Listen to Bastille mash-up Destiny’s Child, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake and more

Fatboy Slim and Dr. Dre also made the cut

Bastille have mashed-up songs by Destiny’s Child, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, and more in a new cover.

The band returned this week with new single ‘Quarter Past Midnight’ – the first track to be taken from their forthcoming third album.

During an appearance on Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 show to promote the new song, the four-piece also performed the inventive cover. Mainly comprised of elements of Destiny’s Child’s ‘Say My Name’, Christina Aguilera’s ‘Genie In A Bottle’, and ‘Cry Me A River’ by Justin Timberlake, it also featured a bassline from their own song ‘The Currents’, part of Fatboy Slim‘s ‘Praise You’, and a guitar line from Dr. Dre‘s ‘Xxplosive’. Over the past few days, Bastille frontman Dan Smith has been answering calls from fans on hotlines promoted via the band’s social media accounts. One fan posted on Twitter that he had “promised” the group’s third record “would be out before November.”

The news comes after fans had begun speculating the album would be out in that month. During an interview on BBC Radio 1, Smith appeared to cut himself off mid-sentence, saying the follow-up to 2016’s ‘Wild World’ would be out in “Nov… sometime in the future”.

Speaking to NME last year, Smith said of the new material: “We wanted to do something that feels a bit different, wanted to take it a step on from our last record and acknowledge that, since we released that album, the world seems an even more bizarre and tempestuous place.”

The band will perform a handful of live shows this summer. Tickets can be found here. Bastille recently completed their ‘Reorchestrated’ tour, during which they performed orchestral reworkings of old tracks.
