Alice Glass has said that she used to “romanticise” the idea of quitting Crystal Castles to work at Burger King during her final years in the band.
Glass announced her departure from Crystal Castles in 2014, accusing her former bandmate Ethan Kath of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse in a statement issued during October 2017.
Kath denied the claims at the time and responded by suing Glass for defamation. Glass recently revealed that the lawsuit had been dismissed.
Now, speaking to Pitchfork, Glass claims that when she’d threaten to leave Crystal Castles during their final years together, Kath would respond by calling her a high-school drop-out and asking if she would prefer to work at Burger King instead.
“I started to romanticise working at Burger King,” Glass told Pitchfork, with the report describing how “quitting Crystal Castles to flip burgers would mean that she could at least hang out with her friends and have her own phone”.
“Is this how I want to spend the rest of my life? Is this what I want to be doing?” Glass says she would think at the time.
Elsewhere in the interview, Glass discusses her difficulty listening to Crystal Castles’ music.

“I avoided listening to them for years,” she says. “But I worked eight years of my life on this, and I wrote these words and melodies. I can’t let somebody take that away. There are some songs that I’m never going to fucking listen to again. But there are certain songs, when I listen to them now, I only hear me. I don’t hear anyone else.”
“I do feel like I’m always going to be haunted by my past,” Glass went on to add. “But I can have control of my life now.”
Since leaving Crystal Castles, Glass has pursued a solo career, releasing a self-titled EP in August 2017. In January of this year, she shared a new track called ‘Cease and Desist’.
Kath continued has continuing work under the Crystal Castles name, replacing Glass with new singer Edith Frances. Crystal Castles’ latest album ‘Amnesty (I)’ was released in 2016.
Kath denies all of the allegations against him. A statement from his attorney previous read: “My client categorically denies all the malicious lies about sexual abuse. At no time did my client ever force Alice Glass into having sex with him against her will, much less by use of violence or drugs to take advantage of her.”
